Reading Welfare Rights

Reading Welfare Rights advocates for Reading’s most vulnerable citizens, many of whom experience a debilitating mixture of physical and mental health conditions. We support individuals who are entitled to state aid, but who, due to the complex nature of the benefits system, cannot access the benefits they are due without our intervention. Our advocacy services go well beyond simply providing advice. We act as the client’s representative, including speaking on their behalf to government agencies, and frequently representing our clients at tribunals, arguing cases before a judge.

Partnership

We are proud to hold the prestigious Quality Marks of the Reading Advice Network (RAN) and the Safe and Sound award from Reading Voluntary Action (RVA). 

We are also very proud to be a founding member of The Tackling Poverty Partnership, a dynamic local partnership supporting the people of Reading with: food parcels, support for homeless people, mentoring and support for young people, white goods, furniture, English classes for minority groups and help and support to claim benefits.

Together, as one big team comprised of 7 local charities, we are helping to close the gap in Reading. Our partnership receives funding from Reading Borough Council through their “Closing the Gap” initiative.

Reading Welfare Rights also receives funding from the National Lottery Community Fund and the Henry Smith Charity.
